En Route to Ajanta

Just a shorty post for now...we are on our way to the Ajanta caves. The site is about 100km north east of aurangabad and houses a 1000 year old buddhist temple complex built upon the deccan flood basalts.  If this place is anywhere as spectacular as Ellora, it will be phenomenal.

The drive has been pretty interesting too as we've passed through fields of Corn and cotton, surrounded by almost gothic looking banyan trees and mile after mile of fig groves. There are Brahma bulls everywhere you look and these garrishly painted lorry trucks that honk at you every five minutes.  Really is a spectacular sight. Will post more this evening!!

Oh and to all of my Geos, ive been hording miniature jam bottles to use as sample vials...so expect to see bits of the deccan basalts when I get home!!

Stay tuned!
