The Food. The Food. The Glorious Food

Heres just a few little food moments that have popped up in the last few days.

Baked Yogurt.

Omg! Baked Yogurt set in earthen clay pots! Seriously the most delicious thing ive eaten since I got here! a light dessert with an almost cheesecakey consistancy...but its got none of the acidity of regular yogurt, and its not as heavy as cheesecake...its got the mist delicate floral fragrence just a light hint of flowers and a slight sweetness. Dudes...me and ba could eat it all day!

Custard Apple

How do I describe the experiance of eating a cherimoya, or custard apple. Its delightful and weird all at the same time. The flavor is somewhere between a banana, a strawberry and the custard of a boston cream donut, while the texture is a combination of a banana and a pudding...Mark Twain described it as the greatest fruit hed ever eaten, and id prob have to agree (its a tie between that, and lychees).....when youre eating it, your face, hands, and hair usually get covered in its custardy green flesh and you end up looking like a homeless bum because theres no elegant way of eating it...but its honestly worth it..the flavor is absolutely delightful...too bad we rarely get them in Canada, cuz im really falling in love.

Roadside Dhaba.

We were pretty tired of eating hotel food (its kinda blanned and dulled down to suit what they think are western tastes), so we asked our driver if hed take us to a Roadside Dhaba where we could get Ekdum Frresh Khana. So he drives off into a tiny section of Jodhpur and takes us to a local place he likes to go to. The Annapurna Restaurant is a tiny little thatched roof establishment with plastic chairs and men in Lungis (loincloth) running around. Theres no seperate kitchen area and the stoves are individual kerosene burners. Theres a dude with a dirty tanktop making chapattis and another barefoot dude mixing up the subzis...the entire room is sweltering abd the smell of onions is thick in the air...but man oh man...the food...THE FOOD...we ordered Mattar Paneer (my favoritist!), Malai Kofta, and just a regular Dhal Dharka...and some regular tandoori rotli....and guys...it was THE BEST FOOD ive had since leaving my aunt and uncles house....we were all homer drooling on the table...Roadside restaurants are seriously the best way to eat in india. The cleanliness is somewhat up for question but we had them make everything fresh, rinse our dishes with hot water and then skipped the uncooked veggies....and its soooo worth it..honestly dudes...I wish you could taste some of this stuff. The spice is just out of this world, the paneer is totally fresh and soft and the rotis with just a little bit of fresh ghee drizzled over everything is phenomenal..Damn..Damn
